Constant Companion

Lullaby in the evening air
light peeking through the clouds,
I lie still observing the sky
and see spirits masquerading as mosquitoes
dancing in the ballroom above my eyes.

Some try to kiss me
but I resist them,
pulling up my purple scarf
like a shield against their attacks.

Up even higher still
the clouds have rolled in.
The sky turns a gloomy grey
with not a ray of hope for relief.

They decide to linger a while
long enough that they're still there when I rise and leave the scene.
A reflection of the shadow we've been exploring
I know the wind will eventually guide them away.

All we experience is temporary
seasons come and go.
What's lost will be found again
perhaps in a brand new form!

Shadow work will not last forever
yet surely day will turn into night.
Let LOVE be your constant companion
and it will be your guardian and protector
through the highest highs and in the lowest lows.

This poem was birthed after I attended a Soul Tending workshop by the wonderful Andrew Carmargo. I was a bit fearful about the Shadow work, but it turned out to be a very insightful and rewarding experience! As an added bonus, here is the recipe for the fruit salad I brought to our potluck, which was popular with everyone! :D

Tim's Tropical Fruit Toss (serves 3-4)

3 oranges
2 bananas
1/2 cup raisins and/or dried cranberries
1/3 cup shredded coconut
honey (optional)

Peel oranges and cut in rounds, then place in a large salad bowl.
Chop bananas and add them to the oranges.
Add in the raisins and shredded coconut. Add honey to sweeten if desired.
Toss until well combined. Chill and serve!
