Algonquin Here

Walking under a canopy of gold
I gaze up and see another tear falling.
He cries leaves instead of water
or we would've drowned long, long ago.

Sad to miss his lover again,
it's fall and time to bare it all.
Though you can't come to me darling
I'm right by your side.

Algonquin is where we wanted to be
see how I've brought it to you this year.
The most brilliang shades of red, orange and yellow
wherever you roamed this October.

I'm still hanging on
but soon it will be a new season.
You'll find me again in a brand new form
ready to discover the world anew together.

Gratitude Entry 30: Gracious Neighbours

Last week I went to check out a pizza shop in my neighbourhood for the first time. I was home alone and just wanted to grab a slice of pizza for dinner. On their dislay was a lonely slice of cheese pizza, so I asked if they'll be making more varieties perhaps? The friendly owner said "no problem, I'll make a fresh one for you! Would you like pepperoni or veggie?"

"Are you sure?" I enquired, because I only wanted a slice.

He said, "yes, how about veggie?"

"That would be wonderful!" was my reply and I sat down to wait, grateful for his kindness.

When my pizza was ready and I got up to pay, the money in my pocket was playing hide and seek and was no where to be found! The store owner was super nice again and said, "don't worry about it, you can pay me back next time."

With more gratitude in my heart I thanked him profusely and walked out the door. Rustling through my pockets I finally found my cash and returned to pay him back.

"It's okay, this happens to everyone sometimes" was the cheerful reply.

His two gestures of kindness really made my day, it was amazing to experience such generosity, as if I was part of his family! This is definitely an echo of what's possible as a united humanity, taking care of each other instead of fighting and wars.

Please email me (loveforthehungry@gmail.com) with more details and I would love to create a one-of-a-kind gem for you! :D

Gratitude Entry 29: Autumn's Glory

Fall is often a wistful time for me as it brings back memories of a difficult time that occurred during this season. It was a spiritual death that is mirrored by nature now, the falling leaves giving way to the barrenness of winter.

Still the brilliant colours of autumn will always bring a smile to my face. It's incredible to witness green trees transforming to such vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red. Usually by Thanksgiving weekend the show is almost over, but this year the peak was delayed and it was wonderful to experience the foliage with my uncle from Hong Kong, on his first visit to Canada. The wonder is a kind that happens anew each year.

And though soon the trees will be like skeletons again and everything seemingly devoid of life, it's more like nature is Juliet who has drank the magic potion, waiting for spring, her Romeo to awaken the potential of life and beauty within once more.

P.S. - This entry was written exactly one month ago, and I'm so amazed that the fall colours have endured all throughout October and even into November! This has been one of the best autumns I can remember for sure. :)
